Hello, my name is
Josh Wilger.
I create visual software.
I'm a software engineer passionate for games, web development, and contracting projects. As I hope to eventually program in the game industry, I love working on projects based around a community and building visually stunning virtual spaces.
Although I am not looking for work right now, I always am open for conversations! Feel free to get in touch with me here!
Some Things I’ve Built
Featured Project
Cover Letter Wizard
A cover letter creation and modification tool that uses ChatGPT 4 to guide the user through a series of questions for creating stunning cover letters. This project is a modified version of the one developed for Fifth Wave Solutions LLC.
The original freelancing project's goals were to create a quality website that integrates with OpenAI's API to have a virtual interview, develop it with good programming practices for long-term maintenance, and cater to the specific needs and future functionalities of the tool. As the first and only developer, this showcases the work done for my first freelancing project.
- OpenAI API
- React
- Node.js
- TypeScript
- VS Code
Featured Project
Testing Patience
Created in two days for Global Game Jam - Green Bay based on the theme 'make me laugh', this game demo was pitched as "The Stanley Parable meets Goat Simulator with a gun", which essentially means it's a fun physics game with comical audio narration.
Developed in collaboration with an eight person team, my contribution involved programming physics such as player tripping, object bouncing, and zero gravity mechanics, as well as level completion, timer system, and audio programming for some of the levels.
- Unity
- C#
- Visual Studio
Featured Project
Overlode
A solo project made in over three months with the goals of learning the game engine Unity, gaining experience in creating a full game, and recreating a flash game favorite called Motherload. Starting off by following YouTube tutorials to learn basic player movement, animations, and collisions, the project took off with designing each specific mechanic in Motherload from scratch, such as mining, health, upgrades, items, procedural generation, etc. The project also improved upon the original, such as providing more simplistic user interfaces, upbeat and multi-track background music, and more details and animations throughout the whole game.
- Unity
- C#
- Visual Studio
Other Noteworthy Projects
Chonky Chickens
A 3D chicken dueling game, where the more food you eat, the more knockback you give to push your opponent off the edge. Created in three days for the Game On Green Bay Game Jam based on the theme 'momentum'.
Filterify
A Spotify tool that allows the user to perform detailed search queries for song genres, artists, included playlists, etc. Analyze and/or export a catered list of songs to develop more personalized playlists based on the extra song info provided by the Spotify Web API.
Petri Pete
This game showcases the limitation of "multiple applications" by using draggable windows for much of the UI. Made collaboratively in a week-long game jam with the limitation of 'multiple applications'.
About Me
Thanks for checking out my portfolio! My name is Josh and I enjoy developing interactive, visual software, which means I like making intricate software that is visually appealing through the use of graphics, design, and user experience.
My programming journey started with Python courses in high school and playing around with some technical features of Minecraft, and now has become a fascination for creating the logic behind visually appealing games, websites, and apps.
In May of 2022, I completed my B.S. in Computer Science and Information Sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. At the end of my senior year, I finished a nine-month internship atGreen Bay Packaging, having my mind set on pursuing programming less business-facing software, which became a reality when I stepped into my current role at 1 & Fund.
Other than programming, I enjoy creating fascinating structures in Minecraft and interacting with its community. I also love to journal, do sports or nature things outdoors, and create music occasionally in FL Studio.
Here's a list technologies I’ve been working with recently:
- .NET Core
- TypeScript
- Unity
- C#
- React
- OpenAI API
Where I’ve Worked
